Uta came into our family when we least
expected her and most desperately needed her. When we
suddenly lost Grayce (our 8 year old Weimaraner to GVD) we
were devastated. Our 4 year old Weimaraner, Merlin,
was heartbroken. I have never witnessed such sadness
and depression in a dog. He would not eat. He
fretted and howled when left alone. He lost his fun
loving animated personality. I knew he was not going
to make it alone. We were not ready to get a puppy, so
I went on line and typed in Weimaraner rescue. Up
popped Uta, a 4 year old at the Poulson Montana Animal
Shelter. We went to get her in a blizzard in February.
The rescue people met us half way. We pulled into the
fairgrounds and saw a flash of gray against the white snow.
Uta was so happy to be out of her kennel and running.
Merlin spotted her and it was love a first sight. They
ran together for about an hour then Merlin jumped in the
truck and Uta jumped right behind him as if to say, "let's
go home."
She was very small for a full grown
Weimaraner and very, very skinny. She was also
terrified of men. It took several days before Don
could barely touch her, she cowered when he would walk
anywhere near her. She loves ladies and was stuck to
me from the start. She let me pet her for hours.
She has wonderful house manners, listened and followed
instructions from the very beginning. The guys at the
Dog Club helped us out by giving her treats. Don was
very patient with her. She has slowly lost her fear of
men.
I was able to get her AKC registered.
We are training at the club with great (surprising) results.
I thought I would never be able to leave her in a stay and
walk across the room. It's her favorite exercise!
Over several months she has changed into a confident,
loving, wonderful companion and friend. Merlin loves
her and is very protective of her. She in turn
worships him. Uta is just happy to be able to run,
jump and snuggle. When I walk in the room and see her
laying on Don's lap with Merlin next to her it makes me
smile every time.
Sincerely, Linda
