I volunteered to help show some rescue
dogs at the north side Petsmart store with the Golden
Retriever Rescue . There were about 4 dogs there when I
arrived, one of which really stood out. It was the
biggest golden retriever I had ever seen. We took him
over to the scale and he weighed in at 143 pounds. He
was in terrible shape. He had been shaved, had no tail
or back feathers. His hair was extremely brittle and
dry. His legs looked as if they were going to snap
under his body.
While we were there one of our club members
picked up the packet that was turned in with Jeffy.
She made some comments about his hunting lines and how it
seemed like he has pretty good breeding. Then she
mentioned the sires name, which really perked up my ears.
It was the same sire as my dog Eddi. When I told her
that, she continued to read. The dam was the same too.
Now we were really getting curious. I said, "If
he was born on Christmas, he is Eddie's littermate".
Then she read, December 25th, 2001. "Oh my gosh, this
dog is my dogs littermate! Then the more I looked at him,
the more I could see a resemblance, as strange as that may
sound.
I didn't have room for any more dogs but I
felt a need to help Jeffy. To sum it up, I now
have him. It was rough in the beginning but 1 year
later and 55 pounds lighter he competes in agility and
flyball. He is one gentle giant and one great dog!
I really feel that he was meant to live here, fate!
